The first video features a discussion about a place called Abeokuta nature park in Jamaica, which takes its name from Abeokuta, a city in present-day Nigeria. The second video explores Kalenda, a tradition that is practiced in many parts of the Caribbean. The video focuses on the stick-fighting element which is practiced in Trinidad, and gauging the similarities of the practices with aspects of Chokwe heritage.

LOS CONGOS DE VILLA MELLA | Exploring heritage links between the Dominican Republic and Congo

The third installment of my five part video series offering a glimpse at some of the similarities between elements of Caribbean and African heritage. This video explores Los Congos de Villa Mella, a catholic brotherhood hailing from the Dominican Republic. Established by African slaves on the island 500 years ago, it is described as a fusion of Catholicism and African traditions.
